The Struggle

12/23/10 -  I had a late night conversation with Emily Dickinson in my mind, and she was lamenting the fact that people find poetry hard to read. I remember remarking that with clear and well set typefacing, nothing should be "hard to read" - we laughed, and I was set upon with an idea to make a poem or two that would be truly fitting of that literary criticism. I hope that Emily enjoyed the fruits of that conversation, as they have blossomed in many places along this site...

I look back on our conversation with great affection. Your work is even better than I could have imagined. I am quite glad that the rest of the world gets to see what I do - the amazing world within you that I glimpsed during our brief yet wonderful communion. I am proud of you, and you should be proud of yourself. I know you live near the ocean. In our next conversation, please tell me what it looks like. Also, if you've seen a moor - I'd like a poem on an image of one, as I have never seen that either.

Until our next tête-à-tête...

Em,

Start here: http://www.huntinghumans.com/postings/2010/9/7/moments-of-reflection.html (sorry for the self referential link - makes me feel like Robert Frost... Ugh.)

And I'll work on the Moor image, I promise.

I never venture over to Frost's side of the world… good fences make good neighbors.
